End of Summer (Cantonese) Fun!
Can you believe we are already more than halfway through August? Guess time does fly when one is having fun. Let's squeeze in some more fun before we (our kids) hit back to school, shall we?
So the last Zoo Animal poster has been proved a popular one. How's it going? How many times have you been to the zoo already? I have received quite some private messages with animal suggestions - thank you! So as promised, here is another Zoo Animal poster for you. If your suggested animals are not here, don't worry as there'll be a part 3 of the Zoo Animal poster. If you have more suggestions, feel free to leave me a comment here.
Now that your kids are equipped with the vocabulary of 18 animals, they are begging for a more challenging zoo hunt game, I bet. So here you go - a mix of 10 zoo hunt worksheets. Like last time, kids can put a sticker on each animal that they have found at the zoo and then another sticker if they can correctly name it in Cantonese. Alternatively, you can use the worksheets for a game of "Zoo Bingo". Plan a walking route through the zoo and get the kids to find the animals on their worksheet. The first who finds all 9 animals on their worksheet wins. If your local zoo doesn't have all the animals, just make the one who has found the most animals on their worksheet the winner.
If you want to first practice more on the new vocabulary on this second Zoo Animal poster, you can use this zoo hunt worksheet instead which have only the 9 new animals.
So other than another trip to the local zoo, what else can we do end of summer? Shopping! End of summer is an exciting time for kids as they get to choose their new school supplies. So let's make those shopping trips count. Here's a poster of some basic school supplies.
If you have time, you can use it for countdown to the first day of school. I would start 10 days before school starts. Introduce one item each day and then have a quiz (and a shopping spree!) at the store on the tenth day. If your kids have got all 9 items right in Cantonese, you may want to throw in a surprise item as a reward!
What else do you do to prepare your kids for their first day back to school?
