What's CantonSponge?

I am a mother to two beautiful children, Olivia and Dion. We live in Dordrecht, a beautiful city and the oldest city in the Holland area of The Netherlands. We were a bilingual household (Dutch and English), following the One Parent One Language rule. But we would really like our kids to be able to communicate with their grandparents in Hong Kong, so we have added Cantonese to the mix since late 2014. It has been a challenge finding materials to teach my two kids and my Dutch husband Cantonese. I used to teach English as Second Language in Hong Kong and had experience making teaching materials. So I thought...why don't I make my own materials for my kids?

 

So there...CantonSponge is created with the goal of bringing Cantonese language learning to life for babies, toddlers, kids and adults. So they can soak up the language like a sponge!

 

In this site, you can find many Cantonese language learning activity ideas and materials (including flashcards, posters, etc.). All the materials include clear pronunciation written in Jyutping, and translation in English. Parents who do not speak Cantonese or read Chinese can therefore learn with their kids and have fun together. My husband surely does!
